History of Stem Cells Essay -- Medicine

History of Stem Cells Abstract This paper will be discussing the history of stem cells. There are many different ways to collect stem cells. Stem cells can be used for either right or wrong reasons. People can either use them to cure or to cause harm. Most people use stem cells to cure fatal illnesses. The one researcher that put stem cells out in the science world so people could understand it better was Leroy Stevens. His first encounter with stem cells was with a mouse that had a teratoma. Most people don’t understand the need for stem cells. There are many reasons why we research stem cells. Stem cells can be collected form a wide variety of places. The studies of stem cells have been around for many years. There were many people researching stem cells during the early 1900s, but Leroy Stevens had the greatest impact on the future study of stem cells. The people of ancient civilization were curious about the study of stem cells. Hindus from the thirteen and fourteen centuries BC knew that the result of the fetus would come from mixing two seeds of the parents (Kelly 16). They weren't the only people who wondered about the studies of stem cells. Greek philosopher named Aristotle was also interested in the study of stem cells so he discovered two very important theories. The two theories were Perfomation and Epigenesis (Kelly 16). According to the theory of Peromation, the fetus grows over time (Kelly 16). In contrast, Epigenesis means tat the fetus begins as a generic mass and then different parts are added to the fetus (Kelly 16). - 2 - Researching on mice was began in a Laboratory in Bar Harbor in Maine. In the year of 1953, researcher Leroy Stevens began on an experiment with cancerous mice. This laboratory was awa... ... been beneficial to humans by improving the lives of those who have potentially fatal diseases. In the future of stem cells research more and more fatal diseases will be cured because of the technology gained from stem cells research. That’s why we need to keep on researching stem cells. - 5 - Work cited page 1. Kelly , Evelyn. Stem cells . connecticut : greenwood press , 2007. 2. Air Force One Movie Review

Air Force one is movie released way back in 1997. It is about how a president was able to save himself, family, and allies from the people who hijacked his plane. In the world of terrorism, the USA president, James Marshall portrayed by Harrison Ford, takes a stand against evil and as a consequence his plane was hijacked by a group of terrorists lead by Ivan Korshunov portrayed by Gary Oldman. They want to negotiate and have their leader General Ivan Radek released from prison. The movie starts with some signs of terrorism and attacks of the president then when everything was amended and the president was on his way back to America with his family, secretaries, and his members. A group of terrorist who plans to hijack the plane disguised as press and was able to board the plan along with a spy who works with them. They started killing the escorts and security personnel of the president then declared them as hostage. The president immediately went to a secure emergency pod guided by hi s people but further into the story it was revealed that he didn’t leave the plane. He stayed there to save his fellow people and family. He then planned what to do to save them. He started by slowly killing each terrorist that goes down in the basement of the plane as he tries to connect to the white house to strategize on what to do and get help from the outside. And indeed he was successful and he was able to tell his team what to do and his team followed. There were a lot of fight scenes as he tries to win against the bad guys and despite of many obstacles he remained calmed, always thinking of the next step and never giving up hope. The president was indeed a remarkable leader because of how he handled the situation. He stayed in the plane which shows his selflessness and because he knows that if he stayed there the chances of having more people saved is higher. As he was thinking of ways to get out of the plane it showed his intelligence like in one of the scenes that he realized that he has to land the plane no matter what and to do that he has to drain the fuel. When that didn’t work when the plane was being refuelled mid air the plane dropped to a certain level and he was able to free the hostages by releasing them with parachutes. In the white house his members and the vice president was doing really well following his orders. The vice President Kathryn Bennett portrayed by Glenn Close was very loyal to the president and as a leader herself she stick to the rules that they don’t negotiate with terrorists and she believed in the president that the plan will work out. The president was able to establish direction, align people to understand strategies and accept their validity, he was able to motivate and inspire and in the end he was able to create change for the betterment of the nation.

The Field Of Sociology Is An Old But Ever Changing...

The field of sociology is an old but ever changing systematic study of human behaviour in a social context. Within the field of sociology, in order to create a contextual understanding of the influences that create society in which we live theories are employed to explain the forces that shape our social world. Such theories are essential in explaining emerging social phenomena such as pornification (Furze et al, 2015). Pornification of the social world has become a significant mass media issue of which continues to grow. It is not only apparent in its raw form as pornography on the internet but also in various social media feeds, in advertising , discussed in the press, and as a part of some forms of entertainment. Key concepts of this†¦show more content†¦In essence, pornification refers to not just the self-expression of sexuality and sexual freedom, but also to the mainstreaming of pornography (Caddick, 2010) and its consequent normalisation within society (Kosut, 2012) . Due to pornography’s mainstreaming within society, pornification challenges theories of normalisation, sexuality and the role of the illicit (Mulholland, 2011) and in turn evokes concerns in relation to the development of identities, commoditisation of sexual desire, sexualisation of women and young girls, gender inequality, and violence against women with the inclusion of rape culture (Kosut, 2012). As for example; through pornification in its readily available raw form, pornography, it is implied that women in general should be valued only for their bodies due to enjoying all sexual acts. This in turn sexualises male supremacy which is believed to desensitise men and lead to the view of women being passive sexual objects and therefore the sexualisation of women and young girls as well gender inequality (Boyle, 2012). Other examples may include those that couple sexual acts with violence. Therefore, it can be said that pornification and more specifically pornography provide a fantasy situation in which violence against women and rape culture become permissible and encouraged (Boyle, 2012),
